On Creativity and Process
Here are some thoughts on "Creativity and Process."
Don't rush through to the end product. Sit down. Map out your ideas as they come- raw...unsculpted, rough around the edges. Incomplete.
Jot down notes, jot down fragments of thoughts and concepts that you are thinkng of. Pause, sit with yourself and listen.
The full picture rarely comes to us all at once. We must first step out into this new world of ideas, approcahing each moment of revelation as a stepping stone to what becomes the final product. Be patient with yourself. Release the pressure to have it all figured out at once. Release the pressure to be perfect.
Understand that excellence and mastery have little to do with knowing everything and much to do with making peace with and accepting the fact that there is always much more to know.
So, embark on the journey. Pick up your pen. Begin to write the words, begin to compose the song, the sketch, the design. Paint the canvass but release yourself from the pressure to have it all figured out as soon as you endeavor to express the ideas you've been thinking of.
Commit to the process. Be patient. Sit with yourself. Listen well...write some more and eventually you'll find that you will arrive at a place where your creative work is ready to be birthed into the world.
